Answer-from-document node, document search settings

Alli provides a feature that uses Machine Reading Comprehension (MRC) AI to find answers to questions directly from uploaded documents.

To use the 'Answer from Document' node, documents must first be uploaded to the Documents tab in the Knowledge Base menu.

Go to the Skill Editor and click the 'Answer from Document' icon located on the left of the node icon bar.

Receive a question input from the customer

  1. Edit, duplicate, delete

  2. Check to use the previous node's text input as the question

  3. To have the customer enter a question, 'User Input' Select (default setting)

  4. Edit the question message the node will output

  5. Check to output the question message every time the node is entered

  6. Check to specify the action when an answer is found in the document

  7. Check to display answers using a carousel UI (see screenshot below)

  8. Enter a hashtag to search for answers only in documents with that hashtag. Variables can be specified (works if the variable value matches the hashtag)

When using the carousel UI, answers are shown as below. Click the left/right icons, scroll horizontally, or drag on mobile to view other answers.

Automatically populate the question with a variable value

  1. 'Variable'Select to use the variable value as the question. In this case the question is pre-specified, so when the skill reaches that node it will automatically display the question and answer.

Document search settings

It is recommended to check the document search settings before actually using the node. The document search settings icon can be found in the Documents tab of the Knowledge Base menu as shown below.

Document search settings affect answering directly from uploaded documents using the 'Answer from Document' and FAQ nodes.

  1. Set the confidence threshold for document answer retrieval (only answers with confidence higher than the set threshold will be shown)

  2. Set the number of answer candidates to display

  3. Whether to display the source document name and link

  4. Reset all confidences modified by agent feedback

  5. Revert changes

  6. Apply changes

After adjusting document search settings, enter a question in the search box under the Documents tab and press Enter to preview results.

Enter a question and press Enter to view the results and

adjust the document search settings to see the changed results, then click Apply

Don't forget to click the Apply button to save your settings. Once everything is set, you will see the 'Answer from Document' node find and display answers from documents in a matter of seconds.
